Who is in Control?

Posted on

In their hearts humans plan their course, but the LORD establishes their steps.

Proverbs 16:9

Whenever the world seems to be out of control, we must remember that God is in control, and that he has a divine plan for everyone. However many people don’t follow the Lord’s plan for their lives but instead follow their own plans. True Christians follow God’s plan and realize that God is in total control of the world while protecting the souls of his people.

O Lord, God of our fathers, are you not God in heaven? You rule over all the kingdoms of the nations. In your hand are power and might, so that none is able to withstand you (2 Chronicles 20:6). God is sovereign over all the nations. Rulers throughout the world think they are in control, but in reality God is in control, and he will bring his wrath down on unbelievers and those who persecute Christians. Therefore, Christians can take comfort knowing that God is in control, and that being in God’s family helps them to overcome the fear that comes from Satan. God is in control of everything in the universe, and someday he will destroy sin and create a new Heaven and earth for his people to live in.

In the book of Genesis, Joseph knew that God was in control of everything and this understanding helped him to keep his faith through some extremely difficult years. At the age of 17, Joseph was sold into slavery by his brothers, became a slave in Egypt, and was falsely accused and imprisoned. Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters (Colossians 3:23). Joseph lived by this verse and the Lord gave him success as a slave for Potiphar, who was the captain of the guards. Potiphar prospered because of Joseph’s diligent service, and as a result he put Joseph in charge of everything in his household. However, Joseph was falsely accused of improper conduct by Potiphar’s wife, and was unjustly imprisoned. Joseph’s diligence to his superiors carried over to his time in prison, and soon the warden put him in charge of the other prisoners. The Lord gave Joseph success in everything because of his faith; we find out later in the story that even during his darkest times, the Lord was preparing Joseph for greater things.

God gave Joseph the gift of interpreting dreams; he interpreted a dream that Pharaoh had about a seven year famine that was coming to Egypt. Joseph proposed a plan to save the nation and Pharaoh made him second in command of all Egypt. God allowed Joseph to endure extremely difficult times, but Joseph remained faithful and patient and lived to serve the Lord no matter what the situation because he knew God was in control.

Today have the same faith and patience as Joseph, because you know God is in control and loves you perfectly. God has a plan for your life and He will guide you through each day with his love and power. He will give you his power to endure anything Satan can place in your path. So today walk confidently in Christ and overcome any fear from Satan.

Let’s Pray: Lord, remind me every day that you are in control and that I am your ambassador for Christ. Take away any fear from Satan and help me to reflect love and security in Christ to the world. Take control of my thoughts and words, especially when ministering to others. In Jesus name, Amen
