While we were Still Sinners

Posted on

But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Romans 5:8

The Father sent his Son to the cross to pay for our sins while we were living in sin.  God’s love was poured out on us even though we were in our sins with no way for forgiveness. Jesus made it possible for us to have forgiveness of our sins and to receive eternal life. The love the Father and Son has for us in our sinful state, is an example for us to pour out his love to those in the world living in sin.

We have confessed Jesus as our Lord and Savior and have received the Holy Spirit, and we now live in the family of God for all eternity.  Christ forgives of our sins, and gives us the power to overcome our sinful behaviors; and he presents us to the Father as perfect.  Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us.(Romans 8:24)

We are told by Jesus to go into the world and tell people the good news of salvation and eternal life through Christ. Jesus answered them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick.” (Luke 5:31)  We are told be the “doctor” to the “sick,” meaning we minister to lost souls, and the church is where we learn to become disciples of Christ. We are a light for Christ every day no matter where we are.

Jesus ministered to everyone including tax collectors and sinners, and we are to minister to everyone who will listen. Otherwise we can easily limit people in the world who have open hearts to listen. While Jesus was having dinner at Levi’s house, many tax collectors and sinners were eating with him and his disciples, for there were many who followed him.(Mark 2:15)

Today bring the good news of Christ’s love to everyone, independent of their worldly status. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, (Philippians 2:3). Be humble and secure and value others above self, no matter who they are. Jesus was able to do this because he had perfect love for everyone and he was secure because he was God.  We can do the same because God lives in us through the Holy Spirit.

Prayer:  Lord, help me to minister to everyone even though they are obvious sinners.  Let there be no boundaries when I reflect your love. In Jesus name, Amen
