Take Control of Our Thoughts

We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

2 Corinthians 10:5

God listens to our hearts which is revealed by our thought, therefore it’s imperative that we control our thoughts.  We control our thoughts through the Holy Spirit to overcome sinful fleshly desires. Satan will tempt our flesh, therefore we filter everything through the Holy Spirit so we can capture our thoughts.

Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. (Philippians 4:8) If keep our thoughts as described in the verse above, we can have control of our thoughts. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. (Colossians 3:2) If we set our minds on things above, we will be guided by the spirit, but if keep our thoughts on earthly things, Satan can get a foothold in our lives.

The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace. (Romans 8:6) The Christian life is determined by what governs our mind.  If we are governed by the flesh, we cannot please God. Those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please God. (Romans 8:8) We take control of our thoughts through the power of Christ.   Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us. (Ephesians 3:20) We run to Christ when Satan takes control of our minds, and we ask for his power to escape the thought.  It is very difficult to overcome the flesh when driven by our emotion, but Christ will give us divine power to overcome.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.  (Galatians 5:22-23) Self-control is a fruit of the Spirit and without self-control how can overcome Satan temptations of our flesh. We pray for self-control so we can we control our thoughts through the power of God.

Today have a plan ready to use when tempted; capture the thought, call the Lord for his power of self-control, keep thoughts of victory, or replace the thought by doing something good.

Prayer: Lord help me to overcome sinful thoughts through your divine power. Guide me in the Spirit to overcome evil by doing good. In Jesus name, Amen
