Importance of the Word
Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.
Matthew 24:25
Without the Word we would never know the Lord, his plan for salvation, or his divine commands for us. The Word is the language of God, and every word that the Lord puts on our hearts is understood from the Word. What would the Christian life be without the Word?
The Word is the foundation of the Christian life, and it’s extremely important that we know the Word to the best of our ability. How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, Nor stand in the path of sinners, Nor sit in the seat of scoffers! But his delight is in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates day and night. (Psalm 1:1-2) This verse tells the importance of the Word, that we should meditate day and night. The more we know the Word the more power we have to overcome Satan’s temptations.
Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. (Romans 12:21) A great way to overcome evil is to know the word and memorize scripture. Knowing the Word gives us the power of the Lord to overcome evil. The power of the Word is stronger than Satan’s temptations, especially if the Word is our hearts. When our hearts are filled with the Lord’s love and with the Word, we are changed and we seek to be closer to the Lord.
Without the Word we would never know how to have our hearts filled with God’s unconditional sacrificial love. And it is important to have our hearts filled with God’s love, because love motivates us to serve the Lord, love takes the focus off of self and places it on God and others, and love enables us to know the Lord. Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. (1 John 4:7)
But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves. (James 1:22) Obeying the Word, being a Light on a hill telling other about salvation in Christ, changes our hearts because God fills it with his love. Without the Word and obeying it, we would never change.
Today know the importance of the Word, and take time to read and meditate on the Word. Write down and try to remember verses that the Lord puts on your heart. Always backup your words with scripture.
Prayer: Lord guide me in the Spirit to know your Word, and move the Word into my heart. In Jesus name, Amen
