Put God’s Word in Your Heart

Posted on

Whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law, day and night.

Psalm 1:2

The Word of God is the foundation of the Christian life, and it’s our road map to Heaven.  God is our judge, and the Word tells us how he judges us. And knowing the Word is how we keep from being deceived by Satan, because he can deceive us without us being aware.

Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. (James 1:22) To really understand the Word in your heart, we have to obey the Word through the Spirit’s guidance. We always understand something better when we have experienced in our life. Besides we are deceived when we just read the Word and do not what is says, and that is what Satan wants for us, because he wants us to comfortable believing his lies.

“Truly I tell you,” Jesus replied, “no one who has left home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for me and the gospel will fail to receive a hundred times as much in this present age.” (Mark 10:29-30) If we don’t fully give our lives to Christ, it is because we are deceived by Satan. When we give our lives totally to Christ, giving him first priority in our life, then we will experience a hundred times as much. We are spiritually people living inside this temporary flesh, and only God can bring lasting pleasure to our soul.

The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart. (1 Samuel 16:7) Our heart is revealed by our thoughts and we live out of our hearts. The Lord knows everything about us because he knows our thoughts, and he knows if our hearts are for God or for the world. That is why we obey the Word by following Christ through the Spirit, then our hearts begin to change toward the heart of Jesus.

Today read the Word and think about it deeply, because if we read it fast, we will never retain the full understanding. That is why scripture say meditate on God’s laws day and night. Read the Word with the idea of teaching it to someone. If you have experienced God’s commands, it will be easier to teach.

Prayer: Lord, help me to understand the Word and to meditate on it, so it remains in my heart. In Jesus name, Amen
