Our Identity is Christ

Posted on

For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.

Romans 8:29

All those who accept Christ as their Savior and Lord, are predestined to conform to the image of his Son, and God changes us to have the mind of Christ; therefore, our identity must be in Christ. We are filled with the Holy Spirit, and by reading and obeying he Word, the Spirit guides us and we become more like Christ.

The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.  (Romans 8:16–17) We are in the family of God which means we associate with other Christians through the church, which makes us more like Christ.

With our identities in Christ, we have a high self-worth, but we are humble because of our divine identity. There is no higher self-worth than that provided by Christ. Our identity in Christ gives us divine security, and no one can take our identity away from us, because it comes from God.

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. (2 Corinthians 5:17) God is molding us into a new creation, to become the person he created us to be. Think what it means to become a new creation, becoming like Christ with our unique personality. Note that it often takes multiple personalities to bring some one to Christ, that is why God makes each Christian to be like Christ, with their own personality. And the more we come like Christ, with hearts of love, the more we understand Christ and the closer relationship we can have.

Today remember your identity is Christ, and you live in God’s family. Remember your identity is related to your divine purpose; through Christ you point people to salvation in Christ. Walk today with peace and joy and reflect Christ to everyone.

Prayer: Lord, help me to remember my identity is in Christ, and guide my thoughts, words, and actions. Thank you for my divine identity in Christ.  In Jesus name, Amen
