Our Body is a Temple
Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore, honor God with your bodies.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20
Our body is a temple because the spirit of God lives in us, and the Father and the Son are with us. Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you? (1 Corinthians 3:16) God, the Holy Spirit, and Christ live with us, and that makes our body a temple.
For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church. (Ephesians 5:29) Since our body is a temple, we do our best to take care of our body. Our body is needed while on this earth, because our mind and body are needed to serve Christ. When are flesh dies, we have a new perfect body that lasts forever and never ages.
I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. (Romans 12:1) We are governed by the Spirit which means we have control over our body with it sinful desires. We sacrifice our sinful will which is an act of worship. Our flesh can become our worst enemy, and that is why the Lord has given us power to control our sinful desires.
The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace. The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so. Those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please God. (Romans 8:6-8) If we are governed by our flesh we cannot please God, but if we are governed by the Spirit, we have control over our flesh.
If we are conscious that our body is a temple and the Spirit of God and Christ are always with us, it will help keep us on the narrow road to Heaven. Christ is with us and it will help us to be a light in this world; telling others about Christ.
Today know your body is a temple, and the Holy Spirit, Christ, and the Father are with you.
Prayer: Father, help me to always know that my body is a temple, and I seek to be controlled by Christ through the Spirit. In Jesus name, Amen
