Only Our Flesh Dies

Posted on

Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.

Matthew 10:28

We are created in the image of God, and he created us to live forever. Life is in our eternal soul, which is our personality, thoughts, and will. When the flesh dies, we are still alive in our soul. When Christ returns, we will have a new younger perfect body that lasts forever and never ages like our earthly bodies do.

The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you—they are full of the Spirit and life. (John 6:63) Satan has most of the world living for their fleshly desires, such as money, possessions, power, and fame. Those who live for earthly gains and never accept Christ, will live forever, but not in Heaven.  People can believe whatever they desire, but we are judged by God’s Truth, and His truth never changes.

We are created to live life to the full, to accept Christ as our Savior, to be filled with the Holy Spirit, to have the Father and the Son make their home in our hearts, and to overcome the world. Living for Eternal life in Heaven is more rewarding than living for earthly gains.  Our life in Heaven will be perfect, and we will feel unbelievable being in the presence of the Father and the Son. This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. (John 17:3)

Time does not exist in Heaven therefore boredom never exists. What it will be like without time is almost impossible to understand until we get to Heaven. But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. (2 Peter 3:8) This verse describes time in Heaven, or rather the non-existence of time.

The closer we are to the Lord, the more the things of the world become less desirable. For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. (Philippians 1:21) The apostle Paul was close to the Lord and desired to depart this world and be with Christ. But he knew he would stay in this world until he finished his race. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing. (2 Timothy 4:7-8) Paul had finished his race serving Christ and he was looking forward to going home.

Today, live to finish your race and always keep the faith. Live for Christ and through his power you will overcome the world. Remember only your flesh dies, but you live forever.

Prayer: Lord, guide me to serve you and to live for eternal life. Guide me by the Spirit and help me to overcome guidance by the flesh.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
