Our Soul is Eternal
As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead.
James 2:26
Our eternal spiritual soul is our personality, our thoughts, and our will; our soul never dies. The verse above tells us that without our spiritual soul, the flesh is dead. When our flesh dies our spiritual soul immediately leaves our body and we are alive. When Christ returns, we get a new younger perfect body that lasts forever.
People who don’t accept Christ as their Lord and Savior are considered to be spiritually dead because they have no eternal life with the Father and the Son. The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you—they are full of the Spirit and life. (John 6:63) The Holy Spirit gives eternal life to our soul because the Spirit guides us through life as we obey God’s Word. Even though our hearts desire to be perfect, our flesh has inherited the sinful nature from Adam. No matter how much we desire to be perfect, we cannot be perfect. When we sin, we have Godly sorrow, we pray for forgiveness and the power to overcome. Christ forgives us and presents us to the Father as perfect. We remain spiritually alive because Christ paid the price for our sins.
Life is our soul, and our eternal life only comes from Christ through the Holy Spirit. For this is the will of My Father, that everyone who beholds the Son and believes in Him will have eternal life, and I Myself will raise him up on the last day. (John 6:40 NASB95) Christians are separated from their sins, while those who don’t accept Christ, their sins remain with them, and they will experience eternal death. Eternal life with our new eternal bodies will happen when Christ raises us up on the last day and takes us to Heaven. What a glorious day that will be!
So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. (Isaiah 41:10) What do we have to fear, our souls live forever, and the world has no power over our souls because we walk in the power of God. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. (John 10:28) The Lord protects those in his family, he guides us through this sinful earthly life, and He will return to take us home.
Today, keep in mind you live forever, and the Lord will protect you from the evil one. But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one. (2 Thessalonians 3:3) Walk with courage today and be a Light for Christ.
Prayer: Lord, help me to always remember that I am created in your image, that life is in the soul, and that Heaven is my eternal home. Guide me in the Spirit down the narrow road to my heavenly home. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
