Old Things Pass Away
Therefore, if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
2 Corinthians 5:17
When we accept Christ as our Lord and Savior and receive the Holy Spirit, we are a new creation, and old things pass away, which means things that are not pleasing to God. God changes his people and our old bad habits go away and all things become new. He changes our thoughts and our hearts to conform to the image of his Son.
Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. (James 1:22) If we desire to be a new creation in Christ, we must read the Word and do what it says. Overcoming a behavior from childhood, can be very difficult. To become a new creation in Christ it is necessary to pray for God’s power and guidance to change us, because it can be very difficult to change ourselves with only our power.
For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. (Romans 8:29) All those who freely accept Christ are those God foreknew, and all Christians are predestined to conform to the image of Jesus. If we hang on the past bad habits, how can we be molded to conform to the image of his Son? For example, if my Christian life today was the same as when I was child; I would be a lukewarm Christian. So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth. (Revelations 3:16)
And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ. (Philippians 1:6) The Lord is the one who changes us, and he changes us as we follow the Spirit in obeying his will. We know the Lord’s will for us from the Word, and if we strive to obey his Word through prayer, we will change to become more like Jesus. God is using everything in our life to mold us to be like Jesus, and this will continue to our last breath. If we understand the Lord is changing us as we serve him obeying his will, we will overcome old bad habits because they will be replaced by new Godly habits.
Today know the Lord is changing you, old things pass away and you are becoming new creation in Christ, being molded to the mind and heart of Jesus.
Prayer: Lord guide me in the Spirit and take away any learned habits that are not pleasing to you., and make me more like Jesus. In Jesus name, Amen
