Flesh verses Spirit

Posted on

The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.

Romans 8: 6

The verse above is the spiritual war that we all fight. We all live to take care of our flesh because it is the temple of the Holy Spirit. The way we take care of our flesh is with our minds governed by the Spirit.

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. (Colossians 3:23-24) If we do everything in life as working for the Lord, we can have our minds continually governed by the Spirit. The Lord created us to be governed by the Spirit, and we strive to be governed by the Spirit; but it is through pray asking for the Lord’s power to be governed by the Spirit. When our hearts desire to be governed by the Spirit, and we pray for the Lord’s power, he will guide us to be governed by the Spirit.

Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. (Galatians 6: 8) If we are governed by the flesh, then everything we see and hear we respond by our fleshy desires, and we will be governed by the world. We have the choice, to live life by the Spirit that leads to eternal life, or we can live a worldly life feeding the flesh, which leads to eternal death.

For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want. (Galatians 5:18) Our spiritual battle is to live by the flesh verses living by the Spirit. It takes discipline to control our sinful fleshly desires, but God changes our thoughts and our hearts, and we seek to serve the Lord because our fleshly desires have changed.

But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. (Galatians5:16) We reap the blessing from God that feeds our soul when we walk in the Spirit, and these blessings are better than worldly blessings, which motivates us to continue living by the Spirit.  What God gives us through the Spirit is far better than what Satan gives us from the world. Living by the Spirit gives us victory over Satan, who is always trying to destroy us by tempting us to be governed by our fleshly desires.

Today overcome Satan’s plan to destroy you, and live with victory by living by the Spirit.  Overcome any desire to be governed by the flesh, especially through emotions trigger by Satan.

Prayer:  Lord guide me to be governed by the Spirit and to overcome any sinful fleshly desires. In Jesus name, Amen
