Live for Eternity

Posted on

Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.

James 4:14

Live each day knowing this life is like a vapor and should be lived with the priority of eternal life in Heaven with the Father and the Son. If we live this life and our eternal life is not in Heaven, then we have missed our one and only chance, and the consequences are eternal.

Living for eternity is the life we were created to live and it is the most fulfilling life possible. We can have lots of money, possessions, or power, but it’s all insignificant to the life the Lord had for us. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. (John 10:10) Christ gives us life to full while Satan desires to gives us a deceiving life that leads to eternal death.

If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are of all people most to be pitied. (1 Corinthians 15:19) We live this life serving the Lord reflecting Jesus to the world, with our soul pointed toward the Lord. Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters. (Colossians 3:23) This is living for eternity, living for Christ, and it is the most fulfilling life we can ever experience.

Living with our focus on this world only is giving this life priority over our eternal life. We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. (2 Corinthians 5:20) We are ambassadors for Christ living in a foreign world, and after our short ambassadorship we go to our eternal home in Heaven.

If we live for this life only how can we serve the Lord? If we don’t live for eternity how can we minister to others if we have little or no thought of their eternal life? He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end. (Ecclesiastes 3:11) God created us with eternity in our hearts and created us with the desire to be with Father and the Son.

Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. (John 17:3)  When we live for eternity we live with close loving relationship with the Lord, and our greatest desire is to be with the Father and the Son in Heaven.  Our desire to be with the Father and the Son drives us to live for eternity as our number priority in this life.

Today be eternally minded and live for eternity. It makes this life easier, more fulfilling, and rewarding.

Prayer: Lord don’t let Satan deceive me to live for this life only, but let the Spirit guide me to live for eternity. Guide me in the Spirit to live for Christ to my last breath in this short life. In Jesus name, Amen
