Led by the Spirit

Posted on

For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God.

Romans 8:14

The purpose of the Spirit is to lead us and to convict us when are leaning toward sin. If we are still inside, and we know the Word, we can be convicted by the Spirit. And we also pray for the Lord’s help to be led by the Spirit.

But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. (John 16:13) Christ speaks to us through the Spirit by placing thoughts in our minds, and the Spirit adds to our prayers. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. (Romans 8:26) The Spirit connects us to Christ and to the Father, and the Spirit knows exactly what we need to be more Christ-like.

For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want. (Galatians 5:17) When we are leaning toward a sinful thought, the Spirit will convict us, giving a feeling of sin, and if we are still inside, we will notice the Spirit’s conviction. The problem occurs we when hear and feel the Spirit’s conviction, but we continue toward the sin anyway. The sinful desires of the flesh can become stronger than the conviction of the Spirit.

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-discipline. (2 Timothy 1:7) The Spirit gives power, love, and self-discipline that all come from God, and self-discipline is important. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ. (Romans 8:9) The Spirit connects us to Christ, and the Spirit knows us better than we know ourself.

The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit. (1 Corinthians 2:14) The Spirit enables us to understand the Word of God at a much deeper level. And the Spirit motivates us read the scripture, and serve Christ, and through the Spirit God fills our heart with his love.

Today seek guidance by the Spirit and by the Word of God.

Prayer: Lord, help me to be guided by the Spirit and convicted by the Spirit when Satan tempts me to sin. In Jesus name, Amen
