Know God’s Love

Posted on

Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God.

1 John 4:7

The foundation of every Christian is love, that comes from God that fills our hearts. The more we serve Christ the more love God puts into our hearts, and a heart of love is what motivates us help others and tell them about salvation through Christ.

If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing. (1 Corinthians 13:1-3) Love makes serving Christ a desire and a joy, because we love and care about people. We feel sad for people who don’t know the Christ, and are by default believing Satan’s lies.

Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these. (Mark 12:30-31) If we love God more than anyone, then we will have more love for family and people. God’s love in our hearts changes us, because it gives us a deep caring heart for lost souls. And the more love we have for God the more we hate sin, because sin is the opposite of love. Why did you despise the word of the LORD by doing what is evil in his eyes? (2 Samuel 12:9) This was God’s response to David, because God hates sin, but through Christ we can ask for forgiveness and the power to overcome.

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. (1 Corinthians 13:4-5) We can never be free until we are free from self, and God’s love frees us. Love changes us to put God and others first, we live as Jesus did, having heart that served the Father, helping people and telling how to live for eternity in Heaven.

Today show kindness to everyone, and if the opportunity occurs tell them about Christ. Be concerned about others, especially those who don’t know Christ.

Prayer: Lord, keep filling my heart with your love, and guide me to care and help others. In Jesus name, Amen.
