Have a Thankful Heart
Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.
James 1:17
How many things to we take for granted each day; such as life, food, and a place to live? When we give thanks, it brings us closer to God. God wants a close loving relationship with us, and being thankful is one way he uses to bring us closer. God is love and every command in the Bible is based on his love for us, and a thankful heart is for our benefit.
Praise the Lord! Oh give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; For His lovingkindness is everlasting (Psalm 106:1) We are to give thanks to the Lord for the many things he has done for us, including anything we may take for granted, because giving thanks to the Lord changes us. Every command in the Word changes us and brings us closer to the Lord with a thankful heart. Thank about how a truly thankful heart changes us.
In everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. (1 Thessalonians 5:18) This verse tells us to give thanks for everything. Thank about any thing we take for granted, and be thankful to the Lord. We thank people when do something for us, but do we thank the Lord for many things he has does for us every day?
In fact, this is love for God: to keep his commands. And his commands are not burdensome. 1 John 5:3) We obey every command from God as given in the Word, because it is totally for our benefit; it shows our love and our faith. God is self-sufficient and he needs nothing, but he loves us more that we can imagine and his commands are to bring us closer to Him, and they bring the most fulfilling life.
The things that we truly thankful only come from God. Things of the world are temporary and only provide a short time of contentment, because we develop tolerance. Only God can bring lasting contentment to us, as he guides us to Heavenly home.
Today walk with a thankful heart and note the things that are so easily taken for granted. A truly thankful heart changes our attitude and brings lasting contentment into our soul.
Prayer: Lord, today help me to have thankful heart for everything. Thank you for eternal life and knowing you are always with me. In Jesus name, Amen
