Guided by the Holy Spirit

Posted on

If you love me, keep my commands. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever—he Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.

John 14:15-17

We love the Lord by obeying his commands, and when we are baptized, we receive the Holy Spirit who lives in us. The Spirit connects us to Christ and to the Father. Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; (1 Corinthians 6:19) Our body is a temple because the Holy Spirit lives within us, therefore we take care of our body to the best of our ability.

If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy that person; for God’s temple is sacred, and you together are that temple. (1 Corinthians 3:17) We treat our body well because we are a temple, which means we take care of our flesh, because we need to be healthy and be a light for Christ.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. (Galatians 5:22-23) The Spirit gives us the above which changes our life, and the closer we are to the Lord the stronger the fruit of the Spirit becomes. We can see these characteristics in a true Christian, and the fruit of the Spirit is with us forever.

In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. (Romans 8:26) The Spirit helps us in our prayers because the Spirit knows exactly what we need from the Lord, and the Lord knows what we need better than we know ourselves.

Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. (John 3:6-8) Without the Spirit our spirit is dead and we will not belong to the Lord. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ. (Romans 8:9)

Through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death. (Romans 8:2) The Spirit convicts us when we lean toward sin, and keeps us on the narrow road to Heaven. The Spirit connects us to Christ who guides us through life, and the more we know the Word of God the better we can be guided by Christ.

The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace. (Romans 8:6) When we live by the Spirit, we have peace that comes from God and never leaves us, and as we continue to live for Christ, our spirit is filled with love, peace, joy, comfort and whatever the Lord knows we need, and these blessings get stronger the more we serve Christ.

Today live by the Spirit, and let Christ and the Word of God guide you through the day.

Prayer: Lord. help me to live by the Spirit and may everything I do today be pleasing to you. In Jesus name, Amen
