Governed by the Spirit

Posted on

The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.

Romans 8:5-6

We are created in the image of God which means we are governed by the Spirit. The Spirit is our interface to the world, everything we hear goes to the Spirit and everything we say comes from the Spirit. We can’t do this perfectly, but we ask the Lord to help us to be governed by the Spirit.

You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ. (Romans 8:9) It is essential that we have the Holy Spirit through baptism, otherwise we don’t belong to Christ. The Holy Spirit is what connects us to Christ, and Christ guides us through life, and the spirit convicts when our thoughts are leading us toward sin.

Those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please God. (Romans 8:8) We can never please God unless we have the Holy Spirit, because through Spirit we are guided through life to Heaven, and we are connected to Christ through the Spirit., which means Christ is with at all times.

On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. (John 14:20) The Spirit of Christ is with us and the Father is with us through Christ. Therefore, we are never alone because God is always with us, guiding us through life and enables us to overcome Satan’s attacks. God has given us power over Satan, but we need God’s power to overcome our sinful will.

Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. (Romans 12:21) We can overcome evil by doing good, praying, reading the Word, being with other Christians. We can also overcome evil by being governed by the Spirit, because Satan tempts through our fleshly desires, and Satan knows our weaknesses. If we are aware of reflecting Christ at all times, then Satan has no power over us, and we reflect Christ when we are governed by the Spirit.

Today slow down and be governed by the Spirit until it becomes natural; and pray for the Lord’s divine help.

Prayer: Father, help me to be governed by the Spirit and not governed by sinful fleshly desires. In Jesus name, Amen
