Following the Lord’s Will

Posted on

Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.

Matthew 7:21

The more we know the Word, the more we know the Lord’s will, and the more will we hear the Spirit’s guidance. Faith tells that us that we can depend on the Lord to guide us to fulfill his will. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. (Galatians 5:25)  We depend on the Lord’s guidance through the Spirit for each step in doing the Father’s will.

I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. (John 15:5)  Our life is to serve the Lord by pointing people to Christ and we cannot do this unless we remain in Christ.  This shows our dependence on Christ to bear fruit.  When ministering to others, Christ speaks to us through the Spirit, giving us words and verses that that the person(s) need to hear.

Many times while teaching a class, I will ask the Lord for his words and scriptures, and words and scriptures come to mind.  When I speak them, everyone becomes quiet and focused. This is the power of depending on the Spirit. But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. (John 14:26)  The more we know the Word, the more we will hear the Spirit because the Word is the language of God.

With faith, we serve the Lord in many cases, and being dependent we could bear fruit, fulfilling his will.  Even when are not directly ministering to someone, we are to be Christ-like at all times.. Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path. (Psalm 119:105) We know the Word makes our conscience sensitive to the will of God, and our life reflects Christ.

Today seek to do the Lord’s will as he guides your conscience through the Spirit. Seek his guidance to reflect Christ to everyone, and to keep Satan from attacking with anger or impatience.  Live this day with love, peace, and joy.

Prayer:  Lord, today I seek your will in all things that I may reflect Christ in everything I do today.  In Jesus’ name, Amen
