Faith in Christ

And he said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.”

Luke 9:23

We follow Christ even when life is difficult and we wonder where God is, but we continue follow. Joseph was sold into slavery by his older brothers and was carried to Egypt, and we will see the plan God had for Joseph. Joseph always went to God; when his life was difficult, or when life was good.

But realize this, that in the last days difficult times will come. (2 Timothy 3:1) Joseph was 17 years old when sent by his father Jacob to check on his brothers who were grazing the flocks. So when Joseph came to his brothers, they stripped him of his robe—the ornate robe he was wearing— and they took him and threw him into the cistern. The cistern was empty; there was no water in it. (Genesis 37:23) When a Midianite Merchants caravan passed by, they pulled Joseph from the well and sold him to Midianite Merchants. The brothers told their father Jacob that Joseph was killed by a wild animal, and they took Joseph’s robe and put blood on it from and lamb they killed.

Now Joseph had been taken down to Egypt. Potiphar, an Egyptian who was one of Pharaoh’s officials, the captain of the guard, bought him from the Ishmaelites who had taken him there. (Genesis 39:1) Joseph continued to walk with God through his life, whether good or bad, and God blessed everything Joseph did. When his master saw that the LORD was with him and that the LORD gave him success in everything he did, Joseph found favor in his eyes and became his attendant. Potiphar put him in charge of his household, and he entrusted to his care everything he owned. (Genesis 39:3-4)

The story of Joseph continues, he was imprisoned because Potiphar wife wanted Joseph but he refused, then she lied and Joseph was put in jail. The LORD was with him; he showed him kindness and granted him favor in the eyes of the prison warden. (Genesis 39:21) The warden put Joseph in charge of all those held in prison.

Joseph later interprets dreams for Pharoah and the dream concerns seven years of plenty followed by seven years of famine. Pharoah puts Joseph second in charge of all Egypt, because Joseph had a plan to save Egypt and other countries during seven years of famine.

Joseph is now thirty years of age, and he spent thirteen years as a slave, in prison; through no fault of his own. But God showed him favor throughout is life, because Joseph trusted God in all situations. And this a lesson for us, our faith is always with the Lord no matter what happens to us in this short life. We can see the Lord blessed Joseph, because Joseph never stopped trusting God, and we are blessed when our faith is in Christ, both in this life and in eternity.

Today walk with Christ no matter what happens, and your faith is with Christ.

Prayer: Lord, I will always trust you and I pray that you will always be with me. In Jesus name, Amen
