Do Not Love the World

Posted on

Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them.

1 John 2:15

Everything on earth is temporary and everything from God is permanent and always satisfying. The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you–they are full of the Spirit and life (John6:63). From this verse Jesus is telling us the Spirit gives life to our soul and the flesh counts for nothing in satisfying our soul.

Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. (Romans 8:5). The more our thoughts are directed toward the Spirit, the less they are on the world and its desires. The power of God pulls us away from the world and motivates us to bring people to Christ during the short life on earth.

Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you (1 Thessalonians 5:18). Christians live with a thankful heart knowing heaven is our home and the Lord is always with us. A thankful heart is a satisfied heart, content with what the Lord provides for our worldly needs.

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well (Matthew 6:33). We first seek his kingdom, and we seek to bring others to seek his kingdom. The purpose of our life on earth to bring people to Christ, but Satan is tempting us to seek building our kingdom on earth. But a kingdom on earth is only temporary, but the kingdom of God lasts for eternity.

When our soul is filled with the love, peace, and joy from the Holy Spirit, and when our thoughts are centered on God and serving him, our soul is fulfilled eliminating the need for searching the world for things to satisfy our soul. We are satisfied because heaven has come to us through the Holy Spirit.

Today focus on spiritual things, seek to encourage others, and reflect Christ to everyone. This is our divine calling. Being Christ-like, pointing people to Christ will become the top priority in our life, and the cravings of worldly things will disappear.

Prayer: Lord, guide me in the Spirit to live for Christ, and don’t let my worldly desires take priority. In Jesus name, Amen
