Closer to the Lord

Posted on

Come near to God and he will come near to you.

James 4:8

Spiritual growth can be defined as getting closer to Christ, and we do this by learning more about Christ from the Word, giving Christ priority in our life, having total faith in Christ, and our life is hidden in Christ. The greatest and most fulfilling thing in life is straining for a closer relationship with Christ, and having Christ with us in all situations.

And when Christ, who is your life, is revealed to the whole world, you will share in all his glory. (Colossians 3:4) Christ is our life and we depend on Him for everything with a thankful heart. Our life it totally about being with Christ and doing whatever He has called us to do. It’s a great blessing to be guided by Christ down the narrow road to Heaven. Think what it means to have God willing to guide us through life.

The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace. The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so. Those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please God. (Romans 6:6-8) Every step we take in this life should be governed by the Spirit, and this is how we are guided by God. We interface to the world through the Spirit, everything we see, hear, and think, goes to the Spirit, and everything we say and do comes from the Spirit. This is how we are governed by the Spirit.

Without Christ taking our sins to the cross, we would remain lost for eternity. This should give a continuous thankful heart, and a heart that willingly surrenders to Christ. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. (Colossians 3:3) Our life is hidden Christ, which implies our words and actions are governed by Christ through the Spirit. We achieve this by being patience and still inside, which enables us to control our words and actions. He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth” (Psalm 46:10) It is important that we be still inside because it enables us speak from the Spirit.

Today seek to be closer to Christ, from the Word and through prayer. The closer we are Christ, the more our life is hidden in the Lord.

Prayer: Father, help me to always seek to be closer to Christ, and I pray that people will Christ in me. In Jesus name, Amen
