A Humble Heart

Posted on

Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.

Ephesians 4:2

According to scripture Jesus had humble of heart. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. (Philippians 2:5-11) What makes us humble like Jesus?

“I can of mine own self do nothing.… I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me” (John 5:30). We become humble when we realize that God saved us through Christ because we cannot save ourselves. For me it’s comparing the life before surrendering my heart to God, to the life I now live in Christ. As our dependence on the Lord and our thankfulness increases, our humbleness increases. Our heart becomes more humble over time as we continue to walk with the Lord, with a serving heart.

How do we see ourselves as we grow in humbleness? Let’s look at the identity God gives us as his children. We are heirs of God, co-heirs of Christ, (Romans 8:17) we are priests, a Holy nation, and God’s special possession. (2 Peter 2:9). This gives us a high self worth in Christ, and we are not prideful because our identity and self worth comes from God. Seeing our self worth in Christ gives us a thankful heart making us more humble. The higher we see our self-worth in Christ, the more we depend on Christ, and the more humble we become.

Scripture tells us that God is love, (1 John 4:8) he is the source of love and he fills us with his love through the indwelling Holy Spirit. Reflecting God’s love to others opens our heart to receive more of God’s love, causing us to have a compassionate heart to minister to others. A humble heart is a compassionate heart that cares about others and seeks to help others with their physical and spiritual needs. The more we minister to others, the more we depend on Godly wisdom, love, and compassion; the more humble we become.

Humbleness is the most fulfilling way to live. We are secure in who we are in Christ, we walk in his strength and courage, and we are able to bring God’s love to others even if they do not return with love or kindness. A humble person is secure in God’s love. No one can take away our identity because it was given to us by God.

Today remember what Christ has done for you, he has given you forgiveness and eternal life. Remember the identity God has given you, heir of God, priest, his special possession, you are n the family God. Today be secure in Christ and walk with Godly humbleness and confidence.

Prayer: Lord, help me today be humble and thankful. To be secure and confident in Christ, always remembering the identity you have given me. Lord let your love be reflected through me with a humble and secure heart. In Jesus name, Amen
