Making Choices

For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth comes knowledge and understanding

Proverbs 2:6

Today I was reading an article that said we make an average of 35,000 decisions per day. I first found this number unbelievable, but after a moments thoughts I begin to realize that every though, word, and action comes from a decision.

Everything essentially starts from a thought, and if we can control our thoughts through the power of the Holy Spirit, then we should be able to make Godly decisions. Making Godly wise choices, both in words and actions, is something every Christian should be continually striving for.

Sometimes our choices in both word and actions are not wise because they are come from our emotions or feelings. Emotions are given to us by God and what would life be without our emotions? The problem is Satan uses our emotions against us, causing us to make quick choices without seeking Godly wisdom. The key is to be quick to listen and slow to speak, giving us a moment calm our emotion and seek Godly wisdom.

As we continue reading the Word and pray, our mind starts to renew toward the mind of Christ. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. (Romans 12:2) Our minds actually rewire, unwiring old habits and wiring in new Godly habits. This is a blessing because over time our mind is rewired to be Christ-like, and seeking our Lord when making choices becomes normal. Therefore seek Godly wisdom with your words and actions because it will renew the mind.

Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. (Philippians 1:6) God never quits renewing our mind to be Christ-like, helping us to overcome whatever we need to overcome. The more we want to overcome, the more we pray for God’s help.

Today remember to seek Godly counsel through prayer when making choices in your thoughts, words and your actions. Our words can uplift and encourage, or they can hurt causing lasting damage, and choices in both word and action can lead to long term consequences. So today seek to make Godly wise choices, because life is choices.

Prayer: Father in heaven, I come to you today praying for help in making choices. I pray for help in the words I speak and the choices I make in the actions I take. Whatever choices I make today help me to reflect your wisdom, your love, and your patience. Lord, keep renewing my mind to the mind of Christ so I can better serve you. In Jesus name, Amen
