Why Does Jesus Carry the Scars of the Cross?

Posted on

Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.”

John 20:27

After Jesus arose from the grave he revealed his scars to Thomas so he would believe. When we reach Heaven, Christ will be the only one showing scars; the scars from the cross. The reason we read about Christ carrying his scars is because he wants everyone to understand the power of his and the Father’s endless love. God’s love for us is revealed at the cross making it the center of our Christian life. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8)

Keep the cross in the center of your heart, and whenever you picture Jesus on the cross for your sins, see his love flowing from the cross into your heart. It’s Jesus going to the cross that enables our salvation, when we accept Christ as our lord. Keep a mental picture of Jesus with his scars to remind you of the perfect love he has for you.

The love the Father and the Son has for us is revealed at the cross, and that is the foundation of our Christian walk. Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ (Matthew 27:37). How can we love the Lord without recognizing the perfect love he endured for us, when he took our sins to the cross? Christ carries his scars for all eternity to remind us of how much he loves us.

Whenever you take the Lord’s supper in remembrance of Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross for our sins, know he bears those scars so we remember his love for us last for all eternity. I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with loving-kindness.(Jeremiah 31:3) Whenever you pray, meditate, sing praises or anything that reminds you of Christ, remember the scars he has and know the perfect and eternal love he has for you.

Today when praying, meditating, or with a Christian friend, remember the scars Christ carries so you can remember his endless love. The more we reflect his love the more we realize his love. It’s the Lord’s love that frees us from ourselves and enables us put God and others first.

Prayer: Lord, help me to remember your perfect love as shown at the cross, and your endless love as show by your scars. Let me return that love through reflecting it others as I obey your will through the Spirit. In Jesus name, Amen
