Victory Over Sin

Posted on

Then the LORD said to Cain, “Why are you angry? Why is your face downcast? 7 If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it.”

Genesis 4:6-7

Cain’s offering to the Lord was unfavorable, probably because his heart wasn’t right with the Lord. The Lord told Cain do what right and Cain would be accepted, but if he does not do what is right, sin desires to have Cain; you must rule over it. The term “rule over it” means God has given us the power to rule over sin.

Satan never gives up on tempting us and he observes our weakness’ and his goal is to get a foothold in our life. In your anger do not sin.” Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold. (Ephesians 4:26-27) Our emotions can drive us to sin, that is way we need to be in control from the Spirit; because Satan will trigger our emotions for his sinful purposes. When our emotions are trigger by Satan, we will most likely justify our thoughts and our actions.

But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. (1 Corinthians 15:57) When Satan tempts our own sinful desire, we immediately call Christ to make the temptation go away. If we wait, our emotion will drive us to conceive the sin, and we have lost the battle to Satan. “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” (Psalm 46:10) Christians should be still inside and controlled by the Spirit, otherwise we might not call on Christ for victory.

But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one. (2 Thessalonians 3:3) The Lord protects us from the evil one, but we call on Christ for his power to protect us from Satan’s temptations, especially when we desire the sin. No matter what the sin maybe, we have the power of Christ for divine victory.

No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it. (1 Corinthians 10:13) There is always an escape from Satan temptations, but we must call on Christ because he has total power over Satan.

Today be still inside and call on Christ when Satan attacks, and live in victory.

Prayer: Lord, help me to always depend on Christ, and experience victory over sin. In Jesus name, Amen.
