Think on Things Above

Posted on

Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.

Colossians 3:2

What we think can be what we say, but and scripture tells is think on things above. The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace. (Romans 8:6) Our thoughts are to originate from the Spirit, and everything we think, say and do should be guided by the Spirit.

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. (Romans 12:1) We renew our mind so our thoughts are guided by the Spirit. And we do this by reading the Word, praying, having a church family, and bringing others to Christ.

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. (Philippians 4:8) This verse is a guide to our thinking, and these terms: true, honorable, just, pure, love and commendable; all are coming from the Spirit. We can have the terms in every situation in life, because with terms we are reflecting Christ.

We know that we have come to know him if we keep his commands (1 John 2:3). Having a strong desire to serve the Lord guided by the Spirit being a Light for Christ, is how we keep our thoughts on things above. The more we serve the Lord and the more love we reflect to the world, the more our thoughts are on things above.

Today take time to praise and thank God and reap the peace and comfort. Being connected to the Lord through our thoughts, words, and actions, the closer we are to the Lord and the more Christ-like we become.

Prayer: Lord, help me to keep my thoughts on things above; and spending my day serving you and praising you is the greatest blessing I have ever experienced. Thank you! In Jesus name, Amen
