Think About Eternal Life
Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.
Colossian 3:1-2
The word tells us that we have eternity in our hearts (Ecclesiastes 3:11), but Satan tries to kill our thoughts on eternity. This life is the only chance to get right with God and have eternal life, and it depends on knowing and living by the Word.
Keeping our hearts on God and eternity is described in “The Pursuit of God,” by A.W. Tozer. “Many have found the secret of which I speak and without giving much thought to what is going on within them, constantly practice this habit of inwardly gazing upon God. They know that something inside their hearts sees God. Even when they are compelled to withdraw their conscious attention in order to engage in earthly affairs, there is within them a secret communion always going on. Let their attention but be released for a moment from necessary business and it flies at once to God again. This has been the testimony of many Christians.”
The secret communion always going on, is the power of God enabling us to always be connected to Him, and there is no greater blessing than knowing the Father and the Son. But whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ. (1 Philippians 3:7-8)
The more we pray, read the Word, and fellowship; the more we will think about eternity in Heaven, So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. (Luke 11:9-10) It is important that we ask the Lord for his power to be eternally minded and to know our life on earth has eternal consequences.
Satan will try and break our thoughts from eternity to worldly, but we have the power of the Lord to capture our thoughts and replace with eternal thoughts. And the Lord has given us His power over Satan, and when we call on the Lord, we are protected from the evil one, and no temptation will occur that we cannot overcome. Christians are the strongest people on the planet because we have the power of God; and no one knows our thoughts except the Father and the Son.
Today praise and thank the Lord, and sense his closeness to you., because it will help keep your thoughts on eternity. He wants you to know his presence and for you to sense your continual connection to him and to eternal life. The more eternally minded we become, the less fear we have from this world.
Prayer: Lord, help me to always be aware of your presence and keep my thoughts on eternal life. Thank you for your love and for eternal life in Heaven. In Jesus name, Amen
