The Holy Spirit Yearns for You

Posted on

Or do you think Scripture says without reason that he jealously yearns for the Spirit he has caused to dwell in us?

James 4:5

The Holy Spirit is our connection to Christ and our deposit on eternal life. But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. (John 16:13) Christ speaks to us through the Spirit and desperately wants us to listen because he loves us perfectly and wants to guide us through life and into eternity with him and Father. The Lord desires to lead us through the Spirit to have life to the fullest, and to be in Heaven with him forever.

The Spirit hears the words from the Lord and the Spirit yearns for us to hear his words. I often wonder what the Lord has said through the Spirit that I never hear, because I was not listening or thinking about something else. This is normal but as we learn the language of God (The Word), the more likely we will hear the Spirit as he guides our conscious. For example, I can be driving and thinking about my driving, and thoughts will occur telling me to be patient and courteous.

Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. (Galatians 5:25) If we have the attitude of dependence on the Lord, we will commune with the Lord and listen to the Spirit so we can keep in step with his loving guidance. The more dependent we are on the Lord’s infinite wisdom, the more natural it becomes to walk in step with the Spirit. Through dependence, we continue to approach oneness with the Lord; letting his divine power and wisdom work through us.

The Lord yearns to talk to us through the Spirit and probably has more to say than we could ever hear. Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know. (Jeremiah 33:3) Call on the Lord in prayer and he will answer through his Word, through other Christians, or in our thoughts.

Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth. (Psalm 46:10) If we can maintain stillness in our thoughts and commune with the Lord, we will be in tune to hear the Lord. He yearns for us to hear him through the Spirit, but we must be still inside and listen.

Today, make an effort to commune with the Lord and take time to listen intently. Pray that the Lord will help you to hear the Spirit and to be still inside. Know the Lord has divine loving power to enable you to hear.

Prayer: Lord, help me to be still inside and to hear your voice through the Spirit. Help me to be sensitive to my thoughts and to recognize your thoughts. Thank you for the Spirit that connects me to you and is my deposit for eternal life. In Jesus name, Amen
