Seek the Lord
You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.
Jeremiah 29:11
What does it mean to seek the Lord, and how do we do it? To seek the Lord is to desire his presence at all times, and we do this by praying without ceasing. Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18).
Praying without ceasing may sound impossible but with God all things are possible. We can stay connected to the Lord by communing with him throughout the day. If you desire to stay connected to the Lord, you must pray for it; then the Lord will make it happen. Communing with the Lord is done by speaking to him in our thoughts just as if he were walking with us. The more we commune with the Lord the more natural it becomes; soon we begin to feel a connection to the Lord all the time, even when our conscious minds are focused on another task.
Staying connected to the Lord requires an inward spiritual focus. A ‘surface thinker’ who is always connected to the world cannot be an inward thinker who communes with the Lord. It takes time to train yourself to focus inwardly and still be aware of what’s going on around you.
If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit (Galatians 5:25). We seek the Lord by living in the Spirit, and this can be described as connecting to the world through the Holy Spirit. It requires a conscious effort to take everything we hear, see, think, and speak first to the Spirit. It becomes natural over time because it’s the way God created us to connect to the world.
Christians seek the Lord through prayer, communing with him throughout the day, while at the same time ministering to the world. He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;” (Psalm 46:10). Communing with the Lord through the day slows us down inside and gives us time to seek the Spirit. It also gives us peace and joy because that is what we experience when we are connected to the Lord.
Today seek the Lord through prayer and commune with him throughout the day. Praise him, thank him, and ask him for guidance. The Lord loves you perfectly and is interested in every detail of your life. He desires to bless you with his love, power, and wisdom.
Let’s Pray: Lord, help me to seek you through prayer and to be close to you throughout my day by communing with you. I pray that I can always be closer to you each day and live in the Spirit. Guide me to be still inside and to see the world through the Spirit. In Jesus name, Amen
