Power of the Holy Spirit

Posted on

“If you love me, keep my commands. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.”

John 14:15-17

When we receive Christ as our Lord and baptized, we will receive the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is with us forever and places us in the family of God. The Spirit guides us in God’s Truth, connects us to Christ, enables us to understand the Word, and intercedes for us.

Having the Holy Spirit, we are born of God and we live in God’s family. We live in the family of God and no one can snatch us away from God. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. (John 10:28) God protects from the evil one and we will never be tempted beyond our ability to escape. But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one.  (2 Thessalonians 3:3) God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it. (1 Corinthians 10:13)

But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. (John 16:13) The Spirit guides through life and prepares us for what in yet to come. The Spirit speaks what he hears which means Christ talks to us through the Spirit, by placing thoughts in our minds and changing the desire of our hearts. You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ. (Romans 8:9)

For who knows a person’s thoughts except their own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. (1 Corinthians 2:11) The Spirit enables us to understand God, both in the Word and in our life. The Spirit opens doors to the spiritual world and eternal life. The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit. (1 Corinthians 2:14)

In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God. (Romans 8:26-27). This a great blessing because we don’t always know what change needs to be made in us, but the Spirit through Christ knows us better than we know ourselves.

Today beware that the Holy Spirit lives in you, and will guide your through your day.

Prayer: Lord guide me through the Spirit today and help me to listen to the Spirit. In Jesus name, Amen
