Store Your Treasures in Heaven
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Matthew 6:21
The Lord looks at hearts, which is revealed by our thoughts, and from our thoughts Christ will know if we are storing our treasures in Heaven, or storing our treasures in the world. Christ knows our thoughts; whether they are directed mostly toward to the world, or directed mostly toward Heaven.
The Lord wants the best for us, and that happens when Christ is our full-time treasure. This may sound difficult, but when the Lord changes our hearts, we desire that Christ to be our treasure, because following Christ gives us the most fulfilling life we will ever experience.
Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.” (Matthew 16:24) We are to deny self and follow Christ, and this is a full-time task as he guides us through the Spirit in everything we do. When we seek to follow Christ, we are storing our treasures in Heaven.
How can we follow Christ if our life is filled with other treasures? But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. (Matthew 6:33) Giving Christ priority in our life can be a struggle, but if we pray and ask the Lord to be our priority, then his power will enable us to make Christ our treasure. If we store our treasures in Heaven, we will be free in Christ. It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.
When we store our treasures in Heaven, our destination is Heaven. When we store our treasures in Heaven, we will live to overcome anything that is not Heavenly directed. Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. (James 4:4) Keep storing your treasures in Heaven because our life is like a mist, and tomorrow is not promised.
Today seek to do what the Word says, and do what Christ puts in your thoughts and the desires of your heart. You store your treasures in Heaven, because Heaven is your home.
Prayer: Lord guide me by the Spirit to follow Christ, so I will store my treasures in Heaven. And keep Satan form pulling back into the world; by anger, by my words, or by my actions. In Jesus name, Amen
