Our Eternal Body

Posted on

So will it be with the resurrection of the dead. The body that is sown is perishable, it is raised imperishable; it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body.

1 Corinthians 15:42-44

Death of our physical bodies is referred to as “sleep” more than forty times in the Bible. Death is referred only to our physical bodies and never to our souls. Immediately upon death, our spirit leaves the body to be with Christ. The dust returns to the ground it came from, and the spirit returns to God who gave it. (Ecclesiastes 12:7)

How are our physical bodies resurrected after many years of death because the body will decay and return to the earth?  We know all things are possible for God, but will we be identified by our spirit? At the transfiguration described in Luke 9:28-36, Moses and Elijah were recognized, yet they had not received their new eternal bodies. When the Lord returns at end times, we will meet him in the air, and instantly we will be changed into our new eternal bodies.  In a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. (1 Corinthians 15:52)

The body that is sown is perishable, it is raised imperishable. Our physical bodies are perishable and its destiny is death.  If we are to live in Heaven for eternity, we must have a body that is imperishable. When we are clothed with our imperishable bodies, there will be no sickness, no pain, no weakness, and no worry. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away. (Revelation 21:4) Everything will be perfect in Heaven which includes our new eternal bodies.

It is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory. Our physical body is the temple of our soul, but do we all take of our body as we should? Do we exercise, eat healthy, get enough sleep, and live with peace and joy?  It is extremely difficult, if not impossible, to live a pure healthy life in a fallen world.  However, with our glorious body living in Heaven, we will live a perfectly healthy life.

It is sown in weakness, it is raised in power. Our physical bodies have limitations that sometimes makes it difficult to serve the Lord and to do our worldly tasks. We get tired and fatigued, and we have to stop and rest. But our new physical bodies will be powerful and we will never experience physical weakness or being tired.  Our physical limitations on earth will be nonexistent in Heaven.

It is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. Our earthly bodies crave things from the earth, including the sinful nature that comes from the ruler of the air, Satan. In Heaven, our spiritual body will crave things of God because the Father and the Son are with us, and God provides the light in Heaven. There will no more temptations or sinful thoughts because Satan is no longer present in Heaven, and the ruler of the air is the Father and the Son.

Today, realize Heaven is your destination where life will be perfect forever. Boredom will never exist and life will be better that we can ever imagine. Remember we never die, and at our last breath, our spirit separates and goes to be with Christ.

Prayer: Lord, thank you for eternal life and keep me on the narrow road that leads to Heaven.  Guide me to tell others about the road to Heaven.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
