More than Conquerors

Posted on

As it is written: “For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.” No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.

Romans 8:36-37

What does it mean to be “more than conquerors”? To conquer means to overcome, and the Word states, For everyone born of God overcomes the world. (1 John 5:4) Conquer can be described as victory over the sinful world.

To be more than conquerors is to have the assurance of victory. No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it. (1 Corinthians 10:13) This is a promise of God, he will give us the wisdom and the strength to overcome any temptation Satan places in our path, even the death of our physical bodies. For the Lord your God is the one who goes with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you. (Deuteronomy 20:4)

How do we let the Lord fight for us? Faith anchored in love, gives us the confidence, and using the Word of God gives us the victory. Christians live in freedom with a mind that is victorious in Christ. We recognize any temptation as Satan’s attempt to get a foothold, making us a slave to the world, pulling us away from God. Fight all temptations through the power of Christ, and refuse to let Satan make you his slave.

Although the Lord gives the power for victory in every temptation, we sometimes loose the battle. Christians overcome sin more and more over time but we can never be perfect because we are all born with a sinful nature. Christ died for our sins, and we accept Christ as our Savior and receive the Holy Spirit which makes us sinless before God. Christians have a repentant heart that seeks to overcome sin, but sometimes we fall and ask for forgiveness, and Christ forgives us and remembers our sins no more. We continually fight sin and learn to overcome as we become spiritual warriors.

Therefore we are more than conquerors because we trust the Lord and we know how to fight and win over Satan’s temptations. We have learned how to let Christ fight for us. The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still. (Exodus 14:14) When temptation comes recognize it is Satan attacking your freedom and your soul, be still and attack confidently with the Word of God. Get behind me Satan (Matthew 16:23), I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me (Philippians 4:13), The one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world (1 John 4:4), or any scripture that give you the Lord’s power. When temptation occurs, pray and seek the Lord’s help as you remember scripture.

Today be more than conquerors, letting the Lord fight your battles. The Lord never loses a battle and he gives wisdom, strength, and the promise of victory. Walk with confidence and always continue to become a stronger spiritual warrior. Use everyday situations to grow as a spiritual warrior which will make you more Christ-like.

Prayer: Lord help me be more than a conqueror through your strength. Teach me to let you fight my battles and to continually grow as a spiritual warrior, experiencing victory in Christ. For every victory you give me over Satan the better I can fight this spiritual war through your love and power. In Jesus name, Amen
