The Sovereign God
Whatever the Lord pleases, He does, In heaven and in earth, in the seas and in all deeps.
Psalm 135:6
Does it seem like the world is out of control with wars, threat of nuclear war, economic failures, diseases, broken marriages, and loses of employment. Whatever state of the world, God is in control, he has infinite wisdom and power; and all things are possible for God. If God wasn’t sovereign he wouldn’t be God. Jesus looked at them and said, With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible. (Matthew 19:26)
How does this out of control world and a sovereign God affect us? If we walk with the Lord we can be comforted knowing he is in control and protects the souls of those in his family. If we do not walk with God then we can accept Christ as our Savior, receive the Holy Spirit and become part of the God’s eternal family.
Those in God’s family are filled with the Holy Spirit which is there deposit for eternal life. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory. (Ephesians 1:13-14) Christians are ambassadors for Christ in this foreign land and heaven is our home. We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. (2 Corinthians 5:20)
If God is in control why is there such turmoil in the world? From the book of Revelations we learn that the spiritual world controls the physical world, and God is in control of Satan and his demons, therefore God protects us from the evil one. But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one. (2 Thessalonians 3.3) We live for eternity and show our love to the Lord by trusting him to protect our soul through life in this troubled world and into our heavenly home. Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. (Matthew 10:28)
For Christians it is essential that God is sovereign because he is our eternal Father and we are his children. It’s only through God being in total control and knowing his love for us that we live secure in Christ. Christians do not live in fear from the world and they do not fear death because after there last breath life begins.
Today put away any fear and know God is sovereign. Know he will protect your soul from the evil one and heaven is your home. You are secure in Christ and nothing in this world can take you away from the Lord and your eternal life.
Prayer: Lord thank you for protecting my soul from the evil one and giving me your strength to overcome sinful temptations. Thank you for being sovereign over all the earth and for bringing me into your family. Help me to walk in peace and comfort today knowing you are in control. In Jesus name, Amen
