Make Prayer a Priority

Look to the Lord and his strength; seek his face always

1 Chronicles 16:11

Our days would be so much more spiritually satisfying if we would look to the Lord and have conversation with him throughout the day: praising Him, thanking Him, and asking for His guidance, wisdom, and strength. Talking to the Lord throughout the day shows that we are depending on Him to get us through the day in a way that reflects Christ, and this is pleasing to God. I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing (John 15:5). We remain in Him through conversation, which is prayer.

Developing the habit of being connected to the Lord through conversation requires desire and training. It is largely a matter of depending on God instead of depending on self. I keep my eyes always on the Lord. With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken (Psalm 16:8). Always keep your eyes on God by being dependent on Him, just as if Jesus was walking beside you.

If we depend on the Lord, then we are walking in faith. But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him (Hebrews 11:6). God can do things in our lives and in the world that we cannot do; therefore, it is necessary to pray for God’s divine power and love. God is sovereign over all creation, and without His help we cannot fight Satan and his demons. For the Lord your God is the one who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies to give you victory. (Deuteronomy 20:4)

When Christians depend on the Lord and keep their eyes on him through prayer, God protects their souls for eternity and gives them peace and comfort even in the worst of times. We can never depend too much on the Lord as we seek to serve Him by following the leading of the Holy Spirit. Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” (Matthew 19:26). Think deeply about this verse and know that through the Lord’s perfect love all things are possible.

Today pray for God’s love and power to work through you, and for His power to go before you. Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, (Ephesians 3:20). Depend on the Lord as you commune with Him throughout the day, praising and thanking Him, and asking for His divine help and guidance. The Lord is interested in every detail of your life and is willing to help you in every situation. For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you. (Isaiah 41:13).

Let’s Pray: Lord, help me to seek your guidance today with a thankful heart. Help me to depend on you for my words and actions as I minister to everyone, showing Christ-like behavior. Guide me in the Spirit so that my thoughts, words, and actions will be pleasing in your sight. In Jesus’ name, Amen
