Living Water

Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.”

John 4:10

Jesus told the women at the well that if she knew who asked her for and drink, he could give her living water.  Jesus is using living water to explain that God provides living water and she will never thirst again.  Water from the world feeds the flesh, while living water from God feeds the soul.

Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” (John 4:13-14) Jesus is using water to represent the Word of God, and it wells up in us when we obey the Word and live for Christ, then our soul is content and we no longer seek to feed our flesh for contentment.

Satan has deceived most of the world to seek contentment from the world, and worldly contentment can never bring lasting contentment to our soul. As a Christian we separate flesh from our soul, and we realize the person we are is spiritual.  We are spiritual people living in an earthly suit. We need to fill our spirit with living water, otherwise we will get thirsty again.

So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want. (Galatians 5:16-17) If we walk in the Spirit, God will fill our spirit with blessings from Heaven, continuously through the indwelling Holy Spirit and we will be content in all circumstances.

I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.  I can do all this through him who gives me strength. (Philippians 4:13) Paul was content regardless of the circumstances, because he was close to the Lord who feed his spirit with blessings from Heaven, giving Paul’s spirit what it needed for every situation he endured.  God is not a respecter of persons, meaning he will do the same for us.

Today fill your soul with living water. Be content in every situation and don’t let Satan have any control today.

Prayer:  Lord fill my soul with living water so I don’t grave things of the world, but grave things from above. In Jesus name, Amen
