Live With Self Control

Posted on

A man without self-control is like a city broken into and left without walls

Proverbs 25:28

It’s important we have self-control because Satan normally attacks us through our emotions.  When we react from our emotions, we can easily skip over spiritual guidance for our response. When the world triggers our emotions and we take the time to call on the Spirit for guidance, we will feel blessed because we are in control and not the world. It is a blessing when the world doesn’t have direct control of us.

The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace. (Romans 8:6) Our minds are governed by the Spirit and our emotions are controlled by our mind. Certain situations require a quick reaction, and God designed us to respond from worldly input directly to the spinal column for physical response. An example is life threatening situations where seconds count. Hopefully these situations are rare, and we will have self-control to take the time to call on the Spirit for our response.

He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” (Psalm 46:10) With the Lord’s divine help we can remain still inside, even when life is challenging. The more we depend on the Lord for getting us through every aspect of our life, the more we will call on Him in every situation.

And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:7) The closer we are to the Lord with a loving faithful heart, the stronger the peace from the Spirit.  The peace that transcends understanding can be with us and guard our hearts and minds. If our minds are at peace from the Lord, it has a powerful effect in controlling our emotions.

We show the power of Jesus when people expect us to respond in anger, but instead we respond with love, kindness, and wisdom from the Lord. It starts with self-control and will eventually our emotions will remain calm., and our emotions will reflect Christ.

Today use self-control if Satan tempts an emotional response, let it be a trigger to call on the Spirit for a Godly response.  Use your emotion to reflect Jesus.

Prayer: Lord give me self-control to us my emotions for your glory. Let Satan’s temptations drive to Christ for his power to overcome. In Jesus name, Amen
