Life is Choices

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;

Proverbs 3:5

We make many choices every day, but do we check if our choices are pleasing to God, or do we justify our choices? Our justification can be our worst enemy, because it can cause us to lean on our own understanding. Are we interested in pleasing self, or are we interested in pleasing God?

Those who are in the flesh cannot please God. (Romans 8:8) When we do our desire instead of Christ’s desire, we are giving our fleshly desires priority over the spiritual desires from Christ. If we have a choice between two Bible classes which occur at the same time, we choose the one that is best for bringing us closer to Christ.

The spiritual war that we all face, is my will verses God’s will, and sometimes we aren’t aware of the difference, because Satan poses and an angel of light. Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, (Colossians 3:23) One choice we all need to make, is whatever we do, we do it for the Lord. With this attitude it makes it much easier to make the right choice.

If anyone serves Me, he must follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also; if anyone serves Me, the Father will honor him. (John 12:26) If are to serve Christ, who lives within us through the Holy Spirit; shouldn’t we follow him? We should always make the choice that we know Christ will approve, unless our hearts are hardened to where we justify our choice. When our hearts become insensitive to our will verses God’s will, what will our choices be?

Our choices can affect our life as well as our eternal life. We all need to stop and make sure our choices are pleasing to the Lord. If we are unsure about a choice, we can ask a Christian friend for his or her opinion, that is what the church is for, to help each other because we cannot also see ourselves objectively.

Today ask the Lord for his wisdom in all the choices you make. Our choices can have eternal consequences, so we need to pray for the Lord’s approval. There are many choices we make that have little or no consequences, but we are talking about making serious choices where our will verses the Lord’s will.

Prayer:  Lord, help me to always make wise choices, that always put You first in my life. In Jesus name, Amen
