Jesus is Lord

Grace and peace be yours in abundance through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.

2 Peter 1:2

The word Lord comes from the Greek word kyrios, which means “the owner; one who has control over other people.” The verse that says Jesus is Lord is more than just a title, it defines our relationship with him. Christians accept Christ as their lord which means he guides our lives through the Holy Spirit. This scares a lot of people from accepting Christ because they feel they will become a slave to Christ and lose their freedom. When we truly let Jesus become the Lord of our lives, he sets us free and for the first time we are in control. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed (John 8:36).

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight (Proverbs 3:5-6). Trust the Lord and surrender your heart fully to his will and guidance through the Spirit, and lean not on your own understanding. If you lean on your own understanding you will hold something back from the Lord, and never experience having control through the Spirit and true freedom in Christ.

We gain control as we walk with the Lord and our hearts change, causing us to seek the Lord’s will in our lives. Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him (Psalm 34:8). Christians experience the good and fulfilling life that the Lord has planned for us, which makes us more like-minded with our Lord and leads us to seek his will in our lives. We are in control because we have overcome the world, meaning things and people of the world no longer have direct control over us because we are under the control of God through the Spirit. Everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith (1 John 5:4). Through our faith, Christ gives us control as we seek his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Today examine your life to see if Jesus is Lord. The more you let Jesus be Lord of your life the more freedom you will have through him. Know that there is no freedom in all creation that compares to the freedom we receive from Christ.

Let’s Pray: Lord, you are Lord of my life through your perfect love and perfect guidance. Give me the faith to overcome the world through your wisdom, strength, and love. Draw me closer to you every day. In Jesus name, Amen
