Christ Intercedes for Us

Posted on

Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them.

Hebrews 7:25

It is a blessing beyond words that Christ intercedes for us to the Father because it is through Christ we are justified. Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me (Matthew 28:18). The Father gave Jesus all authority which means through Jesus we are forgiven of our sins and when he returns he will judge all mankind.

Christ forgives our sins when we ask for forgiveness with a repentant heart, and he guides the Holy Spirit to help us to overcome sin. Christ walked this earth and knows the troubles and hardships that we go through; he comforts us with his love and compassion. It is a blessing that Christ not only forgives our sins, but also guides us through the Spirit and presents us perfectly to the Father.

In John 17:6-19, Jesus is praying for his apostles. Notice how he presents them to Father – “they have obeyed your Word,” “they believe you sent me,”Now they know that everything you have given me comes from you.” Read the four Gospels and you will see that the apostles are nowhere near perfect. They could never understand that Jesus was going to die and be raised on the third day even after he told them at least three times. The mother of James and John asked “Say that my two sons may sit, one at Your right side and one at Your left side, when You are King.” (Matthew 20:21). Jesus said to the apostles “You unbelieving generation,” Jesus replied, “how long shall I stay with you? How long shall I put up with you? (Mark 19:19). When Jesus was with the apostles during his ministry, the apostles were certainly not perfect, but he presents them to the Father as perfect, because he knew their hearts and how they would change when they received the Holy Spirit.

The Lord treats us just as he treated the apostles; he forgives us, guides us into the future he has planned for us, and presents us to the Father perfectly. This is a great blessing and should give us an overwhelmingly thankful heart and continuous joy. What great love the Father and the Son have for each of us!

Today know that Christ intercedes for you and will guide you through every detail of life. Remember the Lord’s love and the power that he can work through you; power to overcome the world and walk with a heart filled with love, peace, and joy.

Let’s Pray: Lord thank you for interceding for me and justifying me before the Father. It is only through your great love, taking my sins to the cross, that I have salvation. I thank you by surrendering my life to you. In Jesus name, Amen
