Jesus the Bread of Life

Posted on

Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.

John 6:35

This verse is an analogy of what the Lord gives us compared to what the world gives us. Bread and water is something we need from the world every day, while bread and water from Jesus sustains us forever. The bread and water represent love, peace, joy, contentment, security, confidence, the character of God received from the indwelling Holy Spirit. Since the Holy Spirit is always with us, we have an infinite supply of bread and water to feed our soul.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control (Ephesians 5:22-23) And the definition of love is:  Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth (1 Corinthians 13:4-6). The fruit of the Spirit is bread from Christ, and it is always filling because as we grow spiritually the more the bread fills us.

How do we access this infinite supply of bread and water from the Spirit so it will continuously feed our soul? Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace (Romans 8:5-6). We connect our soul to the Spirit through our thoughts. Communing with the Lord throughout our day will keep us connected to the Spirit and keep filled so never go spiritually hungry or thirsty.

To live life to the full, it is necessary to have the source of the living bread, the Holy Spirit. When we accept Christ as our lord and Savior, we are baptized into Christ and we receive the indwelling Holy Spirit. We now have the divine power of God to help change our thoughts, renewing our mind, so we can live in the Spirit. As we continue renewing our mind, becoming more Christ-like, our soul and Spirit start to become one, and we experience more love, peace, joy, and all the character of Jesus, until our last breath. Therefore the supply of bread and water keeps increasing as we spiritually grow closer to the Lord.

Today live knowing you will never be spiritually hungry or thirst again because Jesus in the bread of life and the living water. Christ provides life to the full, so live this day to the fullest in Christ and reflect his love, peace, and joy to the world.

Prayer: Lord thank you for the Holy Spirit who keeps my soul from being hungry or thirsty. Thank you for giving me life to the full. Guide me in the Spirit and help me tell others about the bread of life and the living water that comes from Christ. In Jesus name, Amen
