Sowing Generously

Posted on

Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously.

2 Corinthians 2:9

As Christians we are a light in this world, reflecting Christ and pointing people to the Kingdom. How we sow determines if we reap sparingly or generously. If we are filled with God’s unconditional love we will sow generously, because it motivates us to reflect Christ to everyone.

Take advantage of every opportunity because these are evil times (Ephesians 5:16). Satan is taking every opportunity to feed his lies to people, pulling them away from God. We need to do the same by seizing every opportunity to reflect God’s truth to others. We have power over Satan if we sow generously, but if we sow sparingly Satan will capture their souls.

We sow generously by praying that the Lord will put people in our paths, and that the Spirit will lead us to them. The more motivated we are to search for every opportunity to minister to others, the more we fight Satan and his lies. The more we pray, the more people God will put on our paths.

Sowing generously requires that we care about people and their eternal souls, as well as caring about their physical needs.  “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’ The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me’ (Matthew 25:37-40). When we care about and help others we are showing our love for Christ.

It is important to follow the Spirit in order to sow generously, because every act of kindness and encouragement is part of the Lord’s divine plan for that person’s life. Our Christ-like action is just one part of the divine puzzle of the person’s life, and the puzzle may never get finished without our kind words. Rarely is a person converted by one person, but they are usually converted by Christ-like care and love from many people.

Today, be motivated and trust the Spirit to guide you to souls to whom you can minister. The more motivated you are the more the Spirit guides you. Remember every interaction with others is critically important, so always do your best to reflect Christ’s love.

Let’s Pray: Lord, help me to show kindness to everyone, no matter how I may feel. Guide my heart to bring your love and kindness to everyone, and give me patience to listen to them. Thank you Lord for the Spirit who changes my heart to become the person you created me to be. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
