God Speaks to Us

Posted on

My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand.

John 10:27-28

The Word of God is the primary way the Lord speaks to us because it is the language of God. As we read the Word, we ask the Lord to speak to us about the scripture he wants us think about; and this happens when we read the Word and a scripture will get our attention. We learn most about God by reading and obeying the Word.

I care very little if I am judged by you or by any human court; indeed, I do not even judge myself. My conscience is clear, but that does not make me innocent. It is the Lord who judges me. (1 Corinthians 4:3-4) If we call on the Lord to help our faith, love, patients, courage, etc., and we ask the Lord to change us, so we are pleasing to Him. We are the worst person to judge our self.

The Lord speaks to us through the Holy Spirit, and if we are still inside, we will notice the thoughts He speaks into our minds. But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. (John 16:13) Christ speaks to us through the Spirit by telling us what is pleasing to Him and convicts when we are about do something displeasing to Him. But we must be still and inside and have the desire to hear the Lord.

The Lord also speaks to us through sermons, Godly teachers, and wise counsel. We listen intently to hear the Lord speak through our brother and sisters in Christ. We pray for the Lord to bring out in others what wants us to hear. Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. (Mathew 7:7) We ask because it shows our desire to be more Christ-like, and it shows our dependence on Christ.

We can hear God speaking to us through his creation, our own experience in life, and through dreams. The more our thoughts are on things above the more will hear the Lord, but if our minds are mostly on things of the world, we likely never hear the Lord.

Today seek to hear the Lord, through the Word, through other people, and through the Spirit. Be still and learn to listen for the Lord.

Payer: Help me to hear your message, and listen carefully through the many ways the Lord speaks to us. In Jesus name, Amen
