God of All Comfort

Posted on

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.

2 Corinthians 1:3-4

We all experience troubles in our lives. Through it all, God promises to comfort us. From the previous verse we can assume that the term “all our troubles” includes every possible problem Satan can throw at us. God promises comfort no matter what trials we are experiencing in life. How does He comfort us and how do we experience His comfort?

What does it take for us to be comforted in times of trouble? How might we be comforted when life is fearful and out of our control? Comforting involves the reduction of our fears. We have to know and have confidence in the fact that there is some kind of control over the situation. We can have this confidence when we see ourselves as the Lord’s servants, put our trust in Him, and acknowledge that He is in control. Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” (Matthew 19:26)

If we love the Lord more than anyone or anything, and know that Heaven is our home, then we can fully experience the Lord’s comfort. We no longer fear physical death because we know it is the beginning of eternal life. We trust the Lord in all things. We know we are living God’s plan for our lives and nothing will stop Him from completing that plan. God will bring us home only when He is ready. But thank God! He gives us victory over sin and death through our Lord Jesus Christ. (1 Corinthians 15:57)

If you would like to receive God’s comfort then go to him in prayer and reveal to Him your heart. Share with Him all of your emotions. Share your fears, your anger, disappointment, hurt, and pain. Seek His help, His support, guidance, and divine power. Ask Him to take control and comfort you as you release everything into his hands. Reveal your love and faith by asking for divine guidance as you continue to walk as His servant. When we walk as the Lord’s servant, yielding control to Him, our faith is revealed.

In many situations the trouble we experience may be shared with others. We ourselves are comforted when we empathize with them and seek to give them comfort. God always blesses and comforts us as we seek to help others. The more our hearts desire to minister to others, the closer to the Lord we grow, and the more we are comforted by His compassion.

Today, seek to comfort anyone who is in need. If you need God’s comfort go to the Lord and ask Him. Ask, also, for His strength, and continue to walk as His servant. The Lord’s comfort will increase as you walk in His way.

Let’s pray: Lord, fill my heart with your comfort so that I, in turn, may comfort others. When troubles come, guide me as Your servant to comfort all those in need. Help me to listen and empathize with those in need. Guide me in the Spirit with compassionate words and with your love reflected to others. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
