Go to God First

Posted on

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:6-7

When we give our anxious moments to God, do you think he will give us peace that transcends understanding? When we have thoughts of anger, worry, frustration, or any troublesome thought, can we give it to God and walk in peace and comfort? Is God willing to take our sinful or troublesome thoughts and give us peace and comfort?

We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. (2 Corinthians 10:5) If we take every thought and emotion that is displeasing to the Lord, we can put it in the Lord’s hands and tell him we will live today with peace.   The Lord desires that we trust him and walk through our days with hearts of love, peace, and joy.

If we trust the Lord, we can change our thoughts and emotions, walk in obedience to his will, and accept his results. After praying for all our concerns, we can walk in peace and be obedient to his will, trusting the Lord for the consequences. For example, if Satan has us fearful about something we can say; “Lord I will not entertain this irrational fear; I put it in your hands and today I will walk with a heart of love, peace, and joy. Lord, just get me through this day in accordance with your divine will.” If we really trust the Lord, we will give our fears to him and walk in peace. I have experienced immediate change when doing this, and it is great to be able to change a sinful or worrisome thought or emotion to a Godly thought or emotion. That’s God’s power in us. Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” (Matthew 19:26)

Through the power of God we can change our thoughts and emotions; we do this by running to God and putting everything in his hands, trusting him with all things as we walk in obedience to his will. For me I speak the words, and the more I speak the words, the more trust I have in the Lord and the more peace I receive. This is what the Lord desires, for us to trust him and to go immediately to him with any thoughts or emotions coming from Satan. It is important to run to God immediately when Satan attacks with these thoughts and emotions, because putting it in God’s hands becomes more difficult the longer we wait.

When we turn everything over to God and trust him in all things, we are free in Christ. It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. (Galatians 5:10) Christ sets us free, but Satan will attack us, causing thoughts and emotions that can hold us in bondage to the world. These attacks are driven away when we go the Lord and replace them with Godly thoughts and emotions. You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. (1 John 4:4) Giving it to God is living this verse to the fullest. We have power over Satan and his demons, the power of God through the Holy Spirit, and we use this power by putting things in God’s hands and walking in victory. The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still. (Exodus 14:14) When we immediately give our thoughts and emotions to the Lord, he instantly destroys the enemy, and we are comforted with thankful and peaceful hearts.

Today give all undesirable thoughts and emotions to the Lord through words spoken with determination. Tell yourself that you trust the Lord in all things and ask him to guide you through the day. Pray about everything, trust God, and walk in obedience, leaving the results in his hands. Be free in Christ today.

Let’s Pray: Lord, guide me to overcome all of Satan’s attacks by calling on your power. Help me to trust you in all things and to live as your servant, leaving the results in your hands.   Lord I know that life is better when you are in control and I walk as your servant. Lord thank you for fighting my battles. In Jesus name, Amen
