God looks at Our Hearts

Posted on

The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.

1 Samuel 16:7

The Lord looks at our hearts, and our hearts are revealed by our thoughts. The Lord saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time. (Genesis 6:5) The Lord listens to our every thought because it reveals everything about us, and shows our motivation and attitude to serve the Lord.

Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. (Psalm 51:10) David prayed that the Lord would create a pure heart in him, because he had sinful thoughts with Bathsheba.  It is important that we control our thoughts and that we pray the Lord creates a pure heart in us.  What we see and hear from the world can trigger sinful thoughts.

Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it. (Proverbs 4:23) We live out of our hearts except when want to deceive people. We can say things that are opposite of the thoughts in our hearts, but the Lord knows our hearts which always reveals who we are. We can never deceive God, because he knows us better than we now our self.

Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. (Matthew 7:21) We can go to church every Sunday, sing and pray, but are we doing the will of the Father? We serve Christ by following the Holy Spirit, then we are doing the will of the Father, because the Father and the Son are in perfect agreement.

For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. (Romans 8:14) If our life is led by the Spirit, we will develop a pure heart, because our heart is filled with God’s love. We guide our self by the knowledge of the Word, but only Christ can guide us to someone that will listen when we tell them about Christ. Between knowledge of the Word and communing with Christ, we are ready to go into the world being Light on the hill.

Today start by praying that the Lord will give you a pure heart, and capture every thought to the obedience of Christ.  When our thoughts are pleasing to the Lord, we will be close to the Lord and he will be with us throughout the day.

Prayer:  Lord give me pure heart and may all my thoughts be pleasing to you. In Jesus name, Amen
