Give God Control

Posted on

If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit.

Galatians 5:25

If we give God control of our lives, do we give up our lives and stop doing the things we enjoy? This may be our attitude toward giving God control; however if God is love and we have accepted Christ as our Savior and have become members of his divine family, then what should we expect if we surrender our lives to the Lord?

As believers we are filled with the person of the Holy Spirit whose purpose is to guide us through life, molding us to be Christ-like. As we become more Christ-like in our minds and hearts, our will and God’s will start to become the same, because we have learned that God’s will in our lives yields better results than our own limited wills. When we seek God’s perfect will, we are for the first time in our lives in control through the loving power of God. We pray and the Lord leads us through life according to his infinite wisdom and power.

It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. (Galatians 5:1) Christ sets us free when we become his servants and we give him control. This means that he guides us through life and we leave the results in his hands. We know his results are always perfect and sometimes beyond our understanding; that is living by faith. We trust the Lord no matter what happens in life and we continue living as his servants knowing that he protects our souls for eternity and gives us his strength and endurance.

The Lord wants us to live with peace and joy, trusting him in all things, for he is willing to lead us through life with his love and divine wisdom and power. So we are Christ’s ambassadors; God is making his appeal through us. (2 Corinthians 5:20) We are the Lord’s ambassadors living in a foreign land and heaven is our home. Knowing this gives us more freedom because it can detach us from living in the turmoil of this world. We live our lives closer to the Lord than to anyone or anything in this world. We minister to the world from the Kingdom, and the Kingdom is with us. Nor will people say, Look! Here it is! or, See, it is there! For behold, the kingdom of God is within you. (Luke 17:21)

When we give God control we are free, and we have control of our lives through the Holy Spirit who is the power of God within us. This is true freedom that can only come from God. We are now free to enjoy the world the way God created it for our enjoyment. Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creation: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. (2 Corinthians 5:17) All things have become new, we are a new creation, and we see people and the world differently. Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. (Psalm 37:4) God has changed our hearts to be like the heart of Jesus, and he now gives us the desires of our hearts, meaning that we live our lives to the full. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. (John 10:10) When we give the Lord control of our lives, we lose nothing, and we gain every blessing God has for us.

Today seek to surrender your life to the Lord and to seek his guidance in all your decisions. Tell yourself that you are his servant and he is in control. Accept his answers to prayer and his answers in making Godly choices. This shows that you trust the Lord with your life, and that you trust his perfect love for you.

Let’s Pray: Lord, help me to surrender to your good, pleasing, and perfect will. In my mind I know trusting you brings freedom, life to the full, and changes my heart to overcome old habits. Set me free with a heart of peace and joy as I trust you in all things. Remind me that I am an ambassador for Christ, so that I can be eternally minded, knowing that my home is with you in heaven. In Jesus name, Amen
