Do Not Fear

Posted on

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Isaiah 41:10

I have been reading reports about many people living in fear because they don’t know what the future holds for them. But God tells us, three hundred sixty-five times in His Word, to not be fearful. How do we overcome fear when things in our life seem to be out of our control?

And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. (Romans 8:28 ESV) This is a promise from God and we are being tested to see if we really believe this scripture. The verse says all things work together, which includes this pandemic, for those who love God and called according to his purpose.

But his delight is in the Law of the Lord, and on His law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water, yielding its fruit in season, whose leaf does not wither, and who prospers in all he does. (Psalm 1:2-3 ESV) During this pandemic, we have the time to seek the Lord through prayer and through his Word. It’s a time to pray for his guidance in serving him and, through the Word, determine the role of the Church.  It’s a good time to take inventory of our life to see if we are pleasing to the Lord. The more we focus on serving the Lord, the less fear we will have.

The more we realized God is sovereign over all creation and we are in His divine family, He will calm our fears and remind us that Heaven is our home.  If we live as this world is our permanent home, it will be difficult to overcome fear. We overcome fear by trusting the Lord and knowing Heaven is our home. The Lord is with me; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me? (Psalm 118:6) If we are truly eternally minded, we will know that only our flesh dies, we are spiritual beings, and we live forever with the Father and the Son. Physical death is the door to Heaven.

There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. (1 John 4:18) The more of God’s love we have in our hearts, the less fear we will have from Satan.  God’s love and Satan’s fear cannot reside together in our hearts because God’s love drives out Satan’s fear.

Today, seek to be close to the Lord and notice the comfort and security you feel. The closer we are to the Lord, the less fear we have from Satan. No one can comfort us like the Lord.

Prayer:  Lord, draw me close to you and take away all fear from Satan. Let me feel your love and security knowing I live in your family and Heaven is my home.  In Jesus’ name, Amen
