Choose Your Words

Posted on

But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken.

Matthew 12:36

Every sentence from the Lord was meaningful and every word from God is meaningful, because the Bible doesn’t waste words. The words we use determines the divine estimate of our character because we represent Christ. We seek to avoid useless and purposeless words.

If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. (1 Peter 4:11) The more we know the scripture the more our words will be meaningful and the more our words can be backed up by scripture. The more we read and study the word of God, the more our words will become like the word of God.

My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry. (James 1:19) We should be good listeners, then slow to speak, because its takes time to speak with meaningful and respectful words. Taking time to speak can become a good habit, and the more we know the Word the less time it takes to speak. Speaking the words of God will soon become natural, our words will be short and meaningful, and if needed we can back-up our words with scripture.

The problem occurs when we are angry, we tend to speak from emotion and not from the Spirit. Whenever we get angry, we need to maintain self-control with our words and actions; with the power of God.  Christ was always in control, even when he turned over the tables and drove out the animals from the temple grounds. He took the time to make a whip to drive out the animals, he didn’t simply rush with emotional anger, he took the time to make the whip and decided exactly what he was going to do.  This is example of how Jesus controlled his anger. So he made a whip out of cords, and drove all from the temple courts, both sheep and cattle; he scattered the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables. (John 2:15)

Today be still inside and choose your words carefully seeking the wisdom of God through prayer. Always have a scripture in mind for every situation you encounter.

Prayer: Lord help to have meaningful and respectful words; words that you give me to speak in every situation. In Jesus name, Amen
