Be Like Jesus

Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did.

1 John 2:6

If we are to live reflecting Jesus to the world, we must closely examine the life of Jesus, his motivation, his words, and his heart. We pray that the Lord molds us every day to be more like Jesus because we always need the Lord’s divine power. Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us. (Ephesians 3:20) The most important thing to God is to mold us to conform to the image of his Son, and that should be the most important thing to us also.

What is the most noticeable characteristic of Jesus? Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness, and being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross! (Philippians 2:6-8) These verses reveal the heart of Jesus and should reveal our hearts.  We are called to be a humble servant of Christ, and we should never deny Christ, even if we die as a martyr. Many people are dying as martyrs because they refuse to deny Christ.

The Lord will change anything in us to make us more like Jesus.  If we pray every day that the Lord changes anything in us, that will make us more like Jesus.  Praying shows our desire to be more like Jesus because we know being like Jesus is the most fulfilling life we can live.

When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them and healed their sick. (Matthew 14:14) Many times, the Word says that Jesus had compassion because he had a heart of love. And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. (1 John 4:16) The most noticeable characteristic about Jesus is a heart of love because he died for our sins and opens the door to Heaven. If we are to be like Jesus, we must have a heart of love.

Today, seek to be like Jesus. Read the Word and carefully note Jesus’ words and his heart. Pray that the Lord keeps changing you to be like Jesus.

Prayer: Lord, keep changing me to be like your Son. Guide me in the Spirit to live as Jesus did, ministering to the world with a caring, compassionate heart.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
